O.riginal G.angster From Newark

Ice-T: From and In Newark from djkaleem on Vimeo.

Newark has produced more Ice-Ts than Corey Bookers.
No preference, I'm just thinking outloud . . .

Imagine if Ice never left Newark, what do you think would have happened for/to HipHop?

Would there even be a "Dubba Yew" to throw up?

This is Mix Entry One in a Two Part Recognition of one of the Coldest Musicians in the business today!

I threw down a selection of uptempto*House*Soulful songs and instrumentals out of Peven's over 30 album and singles catalog.

If you think you have a few of his releases and want more, you have a lot of homework to catch up on.

I first heard "One More Time" @ Bobbito's nite @ APT in 2002 and I picked that single up. Shortly after, Peven did two shows in L.A.: one at as an in-store at Amoeba Music and later that night at The Knitting Factory on Hollywood Blvd. Being frugal, I peeped his acoustic set with Larry Billups on percussion at the In-store. Andre3000 was the only other brother I recognized in the store and one of the only other folks paying attention. I thought it was a cool showing, but I fronted on the show later that night.

From what I heard, Peven tore a new skylight out in the Knitting Factory and it wasn't until a few months later that I just so happened to catch him at SOBs in Manhattan and ever since, I've been a fan and collector of his releases.

His live shows are not to be missed. He throws down an all impromptu jam covering his hits and showcasinghis dexterity on a range of instruments.

This mix here, is a dedication to Peven and fans of his uptempo works.

I'll follow this up with a mix of his R&B styles and hopefully will convert a few naysayers.

Until then . . .Salaams!

PART MOTHERHUGGING TWO in the Funkiest Space series of vinyl only mixing, this side of Uranus(?).! *

This is my personal fav out of the two because it meanders between: genre-date space-and-time. So for the folks who love to hear 'a little bit of everything' . . . "this fa yew. . .!"

Shout outs to Twintables (pic), Wata Inta Wine, and my homegirl the Lipgloss Junkie!

I don't want to see no Cees or Dees!

As funny as this is, we really need some Black Daddies in music, education and politics.
Much Like Pootie Tang, there's always a need for someone's @ss to get whooped . . . with a belt!

Are You My 'N'?

Ok, before the election, I'd been forced to say think, when I hear people use the 'N-Word' in public; that they "aren't ready for a Black President . . ."

Well! At this point, I think I'm settled on the N-word being obsolete as we have an African-American first lady, Children and a Father going to the White House!

My Challenge is for Everyone no matter what ethnic background or street credo to check themselves before they utter the 'N' publicly.

I certainly don't believe that title is befitting of many Americans, well maybe the ones who didn't vote . . .

Here's some banter:

DJ KALEEM BkA "General Admission"

PART ONE in a series of Jazz/Funk mixes I've created for the Brothers and Sisters @ GALAXY/.09

The Tracklisting isn't as important as the overall funkiness. I guess you can say I freestyled this mix and didn't write down every 45 and LP. Some of which is more apparent to the ear.

This mix may come as a surprise to some listeners who have yet to hear me, rock less HipHop, Soulful Beat and House stuff. I have thousands of gems to share and the crew @ GALAXY/.09 were interested in hearing me share a little more than the set standards.

They speak a bit about that here
